ABC Family Creates a Hit with The Fosters

Summer brings warm weather, vacations and the time of year when most tv shows go on break for the season. To fill the void I try to find a couple of new shows to watch during that time. Usher in ABC Family’s new show; The Fosters. It began on the first Monday of June and had its season finale last night. Keyword; Season. It’s coming back for a second season in January.

If you missed this show or are not sure what it’s about, here’s a description (via ABC Family):

The Fosters is a compelling, one-hour drama about a multi-ethnic family mix of foster and biological kids being raised by two moms. Stef Foster (Teri Polo), a dedicated police officer, and her partner Lena Adams (Sherri Saum), a school Vice Principal, have built a close-knit, loving family with Stef’s biological son from a previous marriage, Brandon (David Lambert), and their adopted twins, Mariana (Cierra Ramirez) and Jesus (Jake T. Austin). Their lives are disrupted in unexpected ways when Lena meets Callie (Maia Mitchell), a hardened teen with an abusive past who has spent her life in and out of foster homes. Lena and Stef warily welcome Callie and her younger brother into their home thinking it’s just for a few weeks, until a more permanent placement can be found.

The Fosters is executive produced by Jennifer Lopez and got a lot of attention because it deals with adoption and a lesbian couple. I personally loved every episode and am excited about next season.

Be sure to catch up on all of the episodes you missed online or when it moves to Netflix. Then mark you calendars for all new episodes in January 2014.
