Yesterday I read this article about ten things to expect in your first PR job. Before I continue here are the things the article shared:

  1. Fatigue
  2. Stress
  3. Unsupportive Friends
  4. Money
  5. Budgets
  6. Accountability
  7. Digital Skills
  8. Multitasking
  9. Criticism
  10. Validation

Overall the items on this list seem to be correct, but the only thing I didn’t like is that it all seemed to focus on the negative of each situation.

What about happiness in doing something that you love. Getting a job after graduation and the excitement and sense of accomplishment that comes along with it. Meeting new professionals and having the opportunity to mentor current students as a professional.

I’m a naturally optimistic person and I find articles like this to be discouraging and pessimistic. We’ve graduated college and we should be focusing on the positive of what the future will bring and not the negative.

It is important to note that some or all of the things on this list may be true, but it is even more important to know that it is up to you as to how you will handle it.

Will you be negative or will you be happy and optimistic?
